Eight-week program each Fall from 2016 to 2023
The Opportunity
- NC enjoys a flourishing relationship with RBC, one of Denmark’s longest standing business colleges, and has been welcoming RBC students at the Welland Campus since 2016.
- Students from RBC’s three-year Study Abroad – World Class program attend Niagara College as part of an eight-week customized business program where they are taught their subjects in English and in an international context.
Our Approach
- Developed a customized business program with social and cultural activities in consultation with RBC that was offered over two months in Canada.
- Incorporated RBC curriculum as approved by the Danish Ministry of Education and delivered education in the following areas:
- English
- Math
- Cultural Understanding
- History
- International Accounting
- International Trade
- Provided students from Denmark with the opportunity to further develop their global competencies through a series of social and cultural activities and a truly authentic Canadian experience.
- Immersed RBC students in Canadian culture in and out of the classroom to gain a true international experience by living with one of NC’s homestay families.
Partner Outcomes and Success
- The RBC – NC partnership was initiated in 2016. NC continues to collaborate with the faculty at RBC to provide academic and social programming; RBC return year after year with a new cohort of students. At the end of the program, students receive a Niagara College Statement of Participation.
- The program strengthens the student’s ability to learn in English and in acquiring effective business communication skills.
- Students continuously demonstrate their ability to adapt to a new environment and culture.
Participant Comments
“To me, studying abroad involves stepping outside of my comfort zone, allowing me to grow personally and gain a better perspective of others.” – Cecile Lopdrup Hansen, RBC student from Ølstykke, Denmark, who studied at NC through this partnership in 2018.
“My host mom Melissa is the best host mom I could ever wish for; the two other girls who lived there are people I’m really close with now, too. It was definitely a very safe and fun house.” – Johanne Ravnholt Mejlbro, RBC Student
