The Opportunity
- The PA projects were implemented in four Latin American countries including Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
- The overall goal was to enhance socio-economic opportunities in local communities, in a viable and inclusive extractive sector.
- Objectives were achieved through interventions aimed at providing:
- Technical assistance concerning the establishment of institutional partnerships.
- Support focused on extractive sector governance.
Our Approach
- Supported three of the seven PA projects executed in Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.
- Collaborated with Marine Institute of Memorial University, College of New Caledonia, Fanshawe College, CEGEP Trois-Rivieres, and Nova Scotia Community College, as well as with local partners in each country.
- Provided technical assistance to educational institutions in sectors such as electricity and energy efficiency (Chile), environmental sustainability (Colombia) and industrial mechanics and industrial electrical mechanics (Mexico).
- Conducted an Entrepreneurship program for women and indigenous populations.
- Provided training in Applied Research for teachers.
- Delivered training in Institutional Leadership and Change Management. As part of this project, Niagara College welcomed 19 global education leaders and college administrators on a leadership tour and training sessions.
Partner Outcomes and Success
- 105 students from UTCAM and 85 students from CONALEP trained in Introduction to Applied Research and Innovation.
- 220 leaders from UTCAM and CONALEP trained in Higher Education Management.
- 16 teachers from UTCAM and CONALEP plus 30 other participants from PA in Chile and Peru completed the Leadership and Change Management training.
